Seal of the Cardiganshire County Council, depicting: a. Top left hand corner - lion (based on the arms of Gwaethfoed, a medieval lord of Ceredigion) b. Top right hand corner - herring against the background of the sea (signifying the fishing industry of Cardiganshire) c. Bottom left hand corner - Wheatsheaf (representing agriculture, the dominant industry of the County) d. Bottom right hand quarter - the arms assigned to Dewi Sant, the patron saint of Wales, who had associations with Cardiganshire The motto "Golud Gwlad Rhyddid" means "A Nation's Wealth is Freedom" The Coat of Arms was granted to Cardiganshire County Council in 1937 ACC. 699 Ref: DYC/SE/2Transferred to Cardiganshire Record Office by Modern Records, Dyfed County Council. 15 December 1989 1.
